AMCHAM Myanmar is the logistical host for this event and the event is open for all members of AMCHAMs of the Asia Pacific (AAP)

Join AMCHAMs of the Asia Pacific virtually on August 24 from 9:30 AM Singapore / 8 am Myanmar for a brief readout on the recent AAP 2022 Door Knock to Washington, DC. Speakers will cover the recent AAP Washington D.C. Doorknock attended by delegates from 15 American Chambers of Commerce from the region.

The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) was a key focus in many discussions, especially the challenges and opportunities that lie within the framework. The IPEF acts as a roadmap for the U.S to facilitate even greater economic connectivity within the region. The program included meetings with representatives of the State Department, Department of Commerce, USTR, Congressional representatives and more.

The 2022 U.S. Washington DC Doorknock was organized by the AmChams of Asia Pacific (AAP) and was led by Steve Okun, AAP Chair & Senior Advisor, McLarty Associates. It was the first in-person Doorknock since the COVID-19 pandemic started. The Doorknock is an annual event where the Chambers from AAP meet with the U.S. Government officials, Members of Congress and Senate, and other thought-leaders who help determine the future of U.S. policy towards the Asia Pacific region.

AmChams from the following countries were also represented: Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Guam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam and included their members from global corporates, SMEs and AmCham leaders.

Loren Monroe, a Principal at BGR Group and the Head of the firm’s State & Local Practice, has more than 20 years of experience in Washington’s political, business and public policy arenas. He is a member of the Executive Board and one of the firm’s spokesmen.

Loren helps provide clients at the state and federal levels achieve policy solutions and secure business opportunities in Washington and state capitals across the country through direct lobbying before Congress, governors and attorneys general.

Loren leads BGR’s State Advocacy and Appropriations practice while providing strategic advice to the firm’s entire roster of clients at all levels of government. He is skilled at helping clients align federal and state advocacy strategies including persuading state and local leaders to support federal priorities. He also helps clients to secure grants and appropriations from federal and state agencies.

During his time at BGR, Loren has lobbied for a diverse roster of clients in the health, financial services, technology, international and energy arenas. Due to the quality of service and results that are consistently delivered, Loren has represented many of his clients in excess of 15 years. He is consistently named one of Washington’s top lobbyists by The Hill newspaper.

Prior to joining BGR, Loren was a business development coordinator for Washington, D.C., public affairs firm Cassidy & Associates. He began his career in Washington serving on the legislative staff of former Senator Pete Domenici (R-NM) when he served as Chairman of the Budget Committee and as a senior member of the Appropriations Committee.

Loren currently serves on the Finance Committees of the Republican Governors Association, the Republican State Leadership Committee and the Republican Attorneys General Association.

George Marsman Drysdale is Chairman and CEO of the Marsman Drysdale Group, a diversified Philippine-based holding and management company with interests in the agribusiness, tourism and medical products. The Group's current operating interests primarily include tropical fruit (banana and mango) for export throughout Asia and the Middle East, medical equipment distribution, and corporate travel and tour services.

Mr. Drysdale also makes direct private equity investments in high growth communications, media and consumer beverage companies in the Philippines and in the United States. Since 1994, Mr. Drysdale has been an investor in the San Francisco Giants baseball team.

Prior to joining the Marsman Drysdale Group in 1991, Mr. Drysdale was a venture capitalist, first as General Partner of Hambrecht & Quist Venture Partners of San Francisco (1983-1988), and then as a managing General Partner of Westar Capital, a management buyout firm. From 1981 to 1983, Mr. Drysdale practiced corporate, securities, and tax law for Davis, Polk & Wardwell, a Wall Street law firm.

Mr. Drysdale was born in Manila, Philippines and raised in California and the Philippines. He received a B.S. in Engineering from Harvey Mudd College (Claremont, CA) in 1976 and a J.D. from Stanford Law School and a M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 1980. Mr. Drysdale was awarded a White House Fellowship in 1987 and served as Special Assistant to Secretary of Agriculture Richard Lyng.

Mr. Drysdale served three terms as the President of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines and three terms as the Chairman of the twenty-six member chambers of the Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC).

Mr. Drysdale splits his time between Manila, Philippines and Hillsborough, California. He has five children: Catherine, Jennifer, George, Caroline, and Jack. In his spare time, George enjoys golf, tennis and coaching his children's sports teams.

Jonathan Mantz is a Principal at BGR Government Affairs and leads the firm’s Democratic outreach efforts. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Commerce, Infrastructure & Energy Practice. Over the past three decades, Jonathan has held senior positions to elect Democrats to the White House, Senate, House of Representatives and governorships. A leading political strategist, he has raised nearly half a billion dollars over his career for Democratic campaigns.

At BGR Group, Jonathan leverages his experience and expertise counseling clients to provide a wide range of services in government relations and public affairs that deliver results. He works with clients to create and execute legislative strategies, strengthens their political affairs operations and enhances their profile. As Co-Chair of the Commerce Infrastructure and Energy Practice, Jonathan represents clients with interests in telecom, technology, energy, environment, immigration, health care, transportation, trade and appropriations before Congress, the Administration, and state and local governments. As a member of the Finance Committee of the Democratic Governors Association, he works with Democratic governors and gubernatorial candidates across the country.

Jonathan served as National Finance Director for then-Senator Hillary Clinton’s 2008 Presidential campaign. Before this, he served as Deputy Executive Director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC). Jonathan was the Finance Director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) for three election cycles.

Mary Tarnowka joined AmCham Vietnam as Executive Director in August 2019. Under her leadership, AmCham Vietnam has been revitalized to achieve AmCham’s long-term mission to strengthen the U.S.-Vietnam trade and investment partnership and serve as the “voice of American business” in Vietnam. First established informally just after the trade embargo was lifted in 1994, AmCham Vietnam is one of the largest, most diverse, and inclusive foreign business associations in Vietnam. Its network of active committees and extensive range of events provide members opportunities for professional networking, business intelligence, advocacy, and business promotion. As one of the most strategic and influential business associations in Vietnam, AmCham drives innovation and sustainable growth and helps its members succeed.

Prior to joining AmCham, Mary served as the U.S. Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City. As a career diplomat and member of the Senior Foreign Service, Mary has decades of experience in Asia, including postings in Seoul, Delhi, Shanghai, and Taipei, as well as at the State Department’s China Desk and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. Before joining the State Department, Mary worked as a CPA and Tax Manager at KPMG’s San Francisco Office. Mary also serves as a Director on the Board of VInaCapital GS Energy. She enjoys yoga, kayaking, gardening, and exploring the ever-changing, dynamic country of Vietnam. She has two daughters, one a high school student in HCMC, and the other, a young professional thriving in San Francisco.
