The American Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar (AMCHAM Myanmar) was established on October 31, 2013. To date, more than 170 companies employing over 20,000 Myanmar nationals have joined the Chamber. These companies represent a diverse collection of industries and nationalities, with a common goal to expand American business and promote the highest business standards in Myanmar.

AMCHAM Myanmar would like to invite all AMCHAM Myanmar members to join the hybrid information sharing session on cybersecurity awareness led by AMCHAM ICT Committee.


ICT technical experts, AMCHAM Governor and Co-founder and Group Chairman of Global Technology Company, Shane Thu Aung, Chief Technology Officer of WaveMoney, Htin Hlaing, and Executive Director of US ICT Council for Myanmar, Gretchen Kunze, will be presenting their deep insights on the importance of cybersecurity awareness, moderated by AMCHAM ICT Committee Co-chairs: Founder & CEO of Misfit Technologies Limited, Munimul Islam and Analyst of Vriens & Partners, Nyan Luu Aung. There will be time for Q+A at the end of the panel.


Kindly note that in-person tickets are limited due to the availability of the venue. This session will be conducted under Chatham House Rule and is off-the-record.

Shane Thu Aung

Mr. Shane Thu Aung was elected as Board of Governor of American Chamber (AMCHAM), Digital Economy Initiative Steering Committee Member in European Chamber of Commerce Myanmar (Euro Cham), Chairman of Myanmar Digital Economy Association and also, Executive Committee Member of Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) and Senior Advisor of Roland Berger Consulting (Myanmar).


Prior his career, he was graduated Master of Management in Organization Development from Assumption University of Thailand (ABAC), and B.C.I.S (Computing and Information System) from London Metropolitan University (UK). Under his capable management and leadership, skills that will bring up to all of his organizations are forwarding with more success in current as well as in future.

Htin Hlaing

Chief Technology Officer of Wave Money


Htin Hlaing is a Silicon Valley executive in leading high performing technology teams at scale through agile development, big data and multi cloud adoption with passion in digital transformation for people life betterment especially in underserved communities. Htin serves as CTO for Wave Money in Myanmar, his home country, for the mission of building better Myanmar for its people through financial inclusion. Before returning to Myanmar in 2020, Htin served as CTO for Ascend Commerce, CP Group in Thailand. In this role, Htin led a large multi-disciplinary technology team with multi-business units of Ascend Commerce, building O2O, B2C and B2B commerce solutions. Previously to Thailand, Htin built his professional career over the span of two decades and held Engineering leadership positions in various Silicon Valley, USA companies.


He holds Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science from University of California, Irvine and Masters of Science degree in Software Management from Carnegie Mellon University.

Gretchen Kunze

Executive Director of US ICT Council for Myanmar


Gretchen Kunze is the Executive Director of the US ICT Council for Myanmar, where she leads analysis and digital transformation initiatives for some of the world's leading technology firms operating in Myanmar. The US ICT Council supports Myanmar's digital development goals including policy, enterprise, and SMEs; capacity-building and education; and awareness initiatives, including organizing Myanmar Cybersecurity Month which is now in its fifth year. Gretchen concurrently serves as a Director with the US ASEAN Business Council, which is the sister organization to the US ICT Council. Gretchen's career has focused on international development, with expertise in governance, economic development, civil society, and civic participation, and she has spent 20 years living and working in Asia. Prior to her current position, Gretchen led the Institute for Political and Civic Engagement (iPACE) based at the US Embassy's American Center in Yangon. She has an MA in International Affairs from the University of Denver, and a BA in Political Science from Villanova University. 

Nyan Luu Aung

AMCHAM ICT Committee Co-chair and Analyst of Vriens & Partners


Nyan Luu Aung works as an Analyst in Vriens & Partners' Yangon office. His duties include conducting research and delivering analysis for clients in a variety of sectors, as well as keeping track of political and commercial developments of Myanmar.


Prior to this, Nyan Luu was a Legal Research Analyst at AIESEC in Myanmar, a leading youth organization, where he was in charge of legal and compliance issues for the entire organization. Additionally, he worked for a local thinktank for nine months as a youth researcher with an emphasis on youth involvement in the peace process in Myanmar. Moreover, he has a strong background in legal study in the fields of commercial arbitration and public international law. He has won awards for his participation in various moot court competitions.


Nyan Luu earned his bachelor's degree in social studies as a top graduate from the Myanmar Institute of Theology, Liberal Arts Program. He also studied law at the University of Yangon with a minor in international relations.

Munimul Islam

Munimul Islam is a distinguished technology entrepreneur, investor, and advisor with a rich background in the telecom sector. Having made a pivotal transition to the technology startup scene, Munimul Islam swiftly propelled a Bangladesh-based technology company to become a key regional player within just six years, extending its reach to five countries across two continents, with a global service footprint.


Renowned for his visionary leadership, Munimul Islam has successfully founded three impactful ventures. These ventures have significantly influenced the realms of conversational AI and Omnichannel CRM worldwide, agri-fintech and supply chain in Bangladesh, and financial inclusion in Myanmar.


In addition to his entrepreneurial achievements, Munimul Islam plays a key role as the co-chair of the ICT Committee in the American Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar, contributing to the growth and development of the technology sector in the region. He has also played a pivotal role in nurturing the growth of early-stage startups, providing strategic investments and guidance to enable their expansion into global markets.
