Event Details
Please join us for a special session with Dr. Bart Minten, head of the Myanmar Agriculture Policy Support Activity (MAPSA), for a briefing on their latest paper, Beyond emergency relief: What will it take to ensure a resilient recovery for agriculture and the rural economy of Myanmar.MAPSA is a joint project of USAID and the Livelihoods and Food Security Fund (LIFT) and is implemented by the International Food Policy Research Institute.
Using nationally representative survey data and a variety of economic analyses, MAPSA's paper explores three questions,
- What were the drivers of and constraints to rural transformation in Myanmar over the decade preceding COVID-19?
- How did COVID-19 affect agri-food system participants and how were they able to adapt before and following the military coup in 2021?
- What are the expected consequences of coup-induced state failure during the COVID-19 pandemic for poverty and food insecurity?
The paper concludes with implications and recommendations for sustainable and inclusive rural economic recovery in Myanmar.
Please join us for a chance to engage with noted agriculture development expert Dr. Minten on the state of Myanmar's agricultural economy. The event will include a presentation by Dr. Minten followed by a Q+A session.
