Event Details
Last year, AMCHAM Myanmar was delighted to host Dr. Michael Martin, Adjunct Fellow (Non-resident), Southeast Asia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) (USA) to address the membership on various potential outcomes and the general economic & political crisis at the outset of the coup.
This year, we are excited to welcome him back to AMCHAM Myanmar for a thoughtful discussion inspired by his latest (March 2022) piece for CSIS, "Time for a New U.S. Policy in Myanmar," where he outlines some recommendations for U.S. policymakers. He will discuss the BURMA Act, the NUCC and prospects of a federal democracy, the role of ethnic armed groups in Myanmar, and much more.
Please join us for the rare opportunity to engage with a true expert with notable experience in the Congressional Research Service and many years of experience studying Southeast Asia issues. From November 2006 to February 2021, Dr. Martin was a specialist in Asian affairs at the United States Congressional Research Service (CRS), keeping the U.S. Congress informed about the situation in Burma, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. Dr. Martin has also testified before congressional committees in both the House of Representatives and the Senate concerning the situations in Burma, Hong Kong, and the People's Republic of China.
