Today in Myanmar, the Flag of American Commerce is enduring as it is everlasting.
I am honored to announce that the fruits of our labor in Washington DC this past July have been delivered. As of August 31, 2023, the American Chamber of Commerce Myanmar has received its accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
We now represent the U.S. Chamber of Commerce here in Myanmar - the world’s oldest and largest commercial organization. This accreditation is a tribute to our community’s commitment to the economic hope we aim to continue to bring to people of Myanmar - not just for this year – but for the coming decade. We have proven that this commitment to economic hope does not have to start and end with complying with sanctions, but our continued presence here – sets the standard for foreign investment and echoes to the world that our American business community is here to stay. This accreditation is a testament to our community’s commitment to our people here in Myanmar - who seek, as we do, nothing but the chance for their communities and children to live out their lives with both purpose and happiness.
Our community has endured a tumultuous year and will likely have many more ahead. Yet, the history of American commerce was built by successes and failures in tumultuous markets like Myanmar.; and even at times in those markets when American commerce needed to be erased and rebuilt again - AMCHAM was always the constant in this history.
This chamber, this flag, this community is now part of Myanmar’s past, present, and future.
Today, I challenge all members to work a little harder to bind together our resources in pursuit of our cause. Join a committee, speak up to us about the economic and commercial challenges you face, attend an event, sponsor an event, and most of all –recruit other like-minded leaders to join our community’s ranks so that our cause of everlasting economic hope for the people of Myanmar may become everlasting.
“AMCHAM Myanmar today, AMCHAM Myanmar tomorrow, AMCHAM Myanmar forever”
Yours very sincerely and respectfully,
Adam Castillo
